The "greed is good" culture should be ended.

Post by zathrus on Mon 25 Jan 2010, 12:13 pm

Lord Myners, the City minister, has called for an independent review of the investment banking industry and the "greed is good" culture that he says has permeated many areas of society.

Here is The Guardian article: http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/2010/jan/24/banking-bonuses-lord-myners-greed

I wonder if any such "review" will make any difference to the way the investment industry do things ?

It will take more than a review by a Lord and a government minister to cut the feet from these greedy pigs !

    I agree Zath' !

The "greed is good" mantra was first given respectability by Maggie Thacher as she expounded her free-market economy politics but after we have seen what a free hand will do for the "greedy" ones in the world banking sector surely we all must know now that personal greed is truly one of the deadly sins and does nothing for the weaker or the unprivileged people in any society.

But then again Thatcher did not even believe that "society" existed either !

    Very true Paps.

Mind you so long as it themselves that decide what they get for salaries and bonuses they are not going to pay themselves any less unless they are made to by some new force.

What that force could be I have no clue as it would have to be a very powerful force with total independence at their core.

"Greed" is one of the base human instincts but I see no reason why we should not resist such instincts and use clear and acceptable thought instead. After all we are supposed to be the sentient ones in the animal kingdom are we not ?
