The new British Consumer Forums site....

Post by papa_umau on Fri 27 Nov 2009, 1:12 pm

During my websurfing travels looking for sites that refer to either consumerism or the plight of the British pensioner I found a very good newish site that has a lot of potential in it.

This site is called THE BRITISH CONSUMER FORUM and it is worth giving a visit for anyone that is interested in subjects like these.

I have already joined this site and I have started a few threads and written to a few more already so why don't the robsters go and have a look as well ?

It's a big site Zath' with lots of choices of sub-forums to deal with just about any kind of consumer-related requirement.

I have already started to write there !

That's an interesting observation HG !

What in particular went wrong with those sites in your opinion ?

I do know that some of them can get so big that they lose the "personal" touch and that is why I have kept this one small and easy to navigate through but still capable of giving good advice and steering enquirers towards other helpful web-presences when needs be.

You will find this particular thread HERE

Of course this is also a "self-help" site where we can all discuss each-others problems and offer possible solutions.

They have got too big for their own good. I don't go on cag any more and i'm getting disenchanted wth MSE too. Added to ehich, they get a lot of trolls.

OH HG you are so right. If any serious - if-amusing-at-times - website wants to flow it HAS TO get rid of the destroyers. That has been one of the problems I have found while running this site. You have to be a bit clinical with these people as if you engage with them they just drag you down to their level.

I have removed at least six of these types from this ROB and ROB1 in my four years of being a moderator. Sometimes it is a bit of a shame because characters like this can keep a site "hot" and can keep the discussions "interesting" if they are controllable. Sadly they seldom are and that is why it is dangerous and difficult to try to run a discussion website that is not moderated.

I suppose it is all about trying to keep a "happy medium" so that the discussions are kept interesting without getting too personal or too filled with invective.

This is hard to achieve and maintain for any such "interesting" forum !
