The pain of Wootton Bassett !

Post by papa_umau on Wed 29 Jul 2009, 10:25 am

I honestly cannot imagine how the people of Wootton Bassett can handle the grief that is piled on them day after day when every soldier killed in Afghanistan comes home via this little village main street and the military airstrip at nearby RAF Lyneham.

It is bad enough when we have to stand by the roadside and grieve for soldiers from our own home towns but the pain and suffering that the poor people of Wootton Bassett have to go through EVERY DAY must be very hard to bear.

Maybe the military bosses should start to bring their/our dead back to other bases so as to give the people of Wootton Bassett a break from all of that pain and misery.

    What say you ?

I agree that I don't understand how the same people can line the streets every day so that they can honour the soldiers that come back from Afghanistan in body-bags.

There must come a time when this is asking too much of the people of Wootton Bassett.

My heart goes out to them too as they are expected to line the streets and grieve just about every day.

I am sure that these folk cannot see the reasoning behind this great loss. I certainly can't.

And do the politicians and the generals think that they can actually defeat the Taliban or Al-Quaeda as I don't think they can. After all, how do you fight an idea ?
