Rail fares rise 'kick in the wallet' after delays.

Post by papa_umau on Wed 02 Jan 2019, 11:51 am

Rail fares have increased by an average of 3.1% in England and Wales - and almost 3% in Scotland - despite a raft of issues on the network in 2018.

The rail industry says 98p of every pound spent on a ticket is invested back into the network.

But Wednesday's price hike was called "yet another kick in the wallet" by campaign group Railfuture.

Transport Secretary Chris Grayling said the government had made a "record investment" in rail.

He also announced that a new railcard extending child fares to 16 and 17-year-olds in full-time education or training will be available by September.

The cost and loss of services in rail-travel in Britain these days is just disgusting and yet the government let these greedy rail companies keep putting up the prices.

Before they should expect higher fare prices they should start to provide better services.

I have no clue as to why the government allow the rail companies to keep putting fare prices up when they seem to be doing nothing to improve the abysmal services that we get from them.

I know the answer tto that question Zathrus: the government allow this to happen as they want to protect their privateer pals.

It will take a change of government, ( maybe to Labour ), to do what needs to be done: to take back the railways into public hands.

At least Labour is promising that.

As none of the other parties could get enough support for an election win it is going to go down once again to a fight between the Tories and Labour.

I just hope that Labour is not seen as too far left under Jeremy Corbyn..

He certainly was seen as "too far left" by some people when he first came to the leadership, but I think he has mellowed and he now may be taking some directions by the way that Blair used to do things.
