Michelin workers' shock at factory closure.

Post by papa_umau on Tue 06 Nov 2018, 12:07 pm

Dundee Michelin factory workers have spoken of their shock after the company announced its intention to close the plant, with the loss of all 845 jobs.

The tyre factory will close by mid-2020 after the French firm deemed it "unsuitable" in the current climate.

Workers were sent home until Thursday following a meeting at the factory officially confirming the closure.

Some employees told BBC Scotland they were angry that they first learned about the decision from the media.

A typically cowardly action by the big bosses.

And, as usual, just before Christmas too.

Yes mate, it always seems that such actions hit the work-forces hardest just before Christmas.

God help them, is all I can say.

Yes, even if they get a decent redundancy settlement before Christmas that will not last very long.

So true. My partner was made redundant a couple of years ago and the redundancy settlement he got went through his fingers in a matter of months.

Michelin 'walk away with 8m worth of taxpayer funded equipment'.

Michelin 'walk away with 8m worth of taxpayer funded equipment'.

Fury as Michelin 'walk away with 8m worth of taxpayer funded equipment from Dundee factory'.

The tyre giant could 'easily move' the hi-tech gear funded by the UK taxpayer from the doomed factory.

See the report from The Scottish Daily Record HERE

I am sure that if they wanted to they could get that money back, or at least stop the company from moving with the machinery that the Scottish Enterprise fund payment financed.
