Armed Forces: Recruits don't need to have lived in Britain.

Post by papa_umau on Mon 05 Nov 2018, 12:01 pm

More foreign nationals living abroad will be able to join the Armed Forces, the government is to announce.

Currently, only 200 Commonwealth citizens per year can apply without having lived in the UK for five years.

But in a bid to recruit more servicemen and women to the Army, Navy and Air Force, the Ministry of Defence is lifting this cap.

The Armed Forces is short of 8,200 soldiers, sailors and air personnel, a report found earlier this year.

It is the worst shortage since 2010, said the independent government watchdog, the National Audit Office.

Read more on this astounding story HERE

It is, to me, a total nonsense that our armed forces have been allowed tto dwindle by these sorts of numbers.

Now the Tory government are going to be scrabbling to recruit from abroad for the armed forces personnel of the future.

Are they saying that they cannot recruit enough new service personnel from Britain ?

OR, is it the fact that they will pay these world-wide recruits much less than they might pay the recruits gathered from home countries ?

This could be a dodgy thing to do as recruiting anybody from anywhere to our armed forces will not guarantee that the people recruited will have the needs of Britain close at heart.

In fact, some of them might even be potential terrorists.

Yes Papa, that is going to be one big risk that they will have to look out for if they start recruiting from the wider world.

Yes, potential terrorists do not go about with it tattooed on their foreheads, so it is really difficult to tell them from the innocent others.

I was shocked to learn a couple of weeks back that Armed Forces Recruitment is now handled by CAPITA; the guys who collect the TV Licence Fee, run Immigrant Detention Facilities, prisons, and assess your PIP entitlement!

Just another Tory privatised attack on our civil liberties.

The next government are going to have a lot to do to get rid of this rampant privatisation madness.

They also handle pensions, administer GP surgeries, and many other things.
Local Governments, Central Government contracts, Defence, Justice, Electronic tagging (and taking 400 bungs to leave the tags loose enough to be slipped off!) Large amounts of the NHS, and The MOD Airport Fire Brigade
I googled them and it is shocking how far their tentacles reach, despite losing 80% of their share price earlier in the year. If I can find the link I will post it, or googling it should bring it up.

    Don't forget private prisons too.

Just about everywhere that the government have allowed the private sector to take over tasks that were once in the hands of the civil service we have seen the quality of these tasks drop like the proverbial stone.

The great problem that re-nationalising these tasks will be will be the terrible cost of buying them out.
