Niels Högel: German ex-nurse admits killing 100 patients.

Post by papa_umau on Tue 30 Oct 2018, 12:02 pm

A former nurse in Germany has admitted murdering 100 patients during the first day of his trial in the northern town of Oldenburg.

Detectives say Niels Högel, 41, administered fatal doses of medication to the people in his care at two hospitals in north of the country.

His motive, prosecutors say, was to impress colleagues by resuscitating the very patients he had attacked.

Högel is already serving a life term for killing people in his care.

He is now said to have killed 36 patients in Oldenburg and 64 in nearby Delmenhorst between 1999 and 2005.

When asked by the judge in court if the charges against him were true, Högel confessed to "more or less" all of them.

This admission makes the 41-year-old one of Germany's worst post-war serial killers.

As a believer in voluntary euthanasia I think that if this was brought into law in many more countries in the world many more terminally-ill people would be able to release themselves from the agonies of dying an undignified, slow, and painful death.

Have a look at what is being done in Switzerland at the Dignitas facility HERE

Of course, done right this would not be anything like the murders that this German nurse has committed.

    That would always be wrong.

How do the ROBsters feel about this subject ?

If the law was clearer it should be easy for a doctor or a nurse to carry out euthanasia if the patent and their family want it. This is one time when the religions should keep their noses out of it.

    I couldn't agree more Zathrus.

Without religion clogging up the system we would see more people voting with their consciences and more good done as a result.

The trouble is that religion has a strong grip on what happens in our democratic institutions.

And I do not see this control being loosened any time soon.

Yes, in the Western world the religions still hold sway, but in the middle Eastern countries under Sharia Law this grip is even tighter.
