Philip Morris accused of hypocrisy over anti-smoking ad.

Post by papa_umau on Mon 22 Oct 2018, 12:09 pm

One of the world's biggest tobacco firms, Philip Morris, has been accused of "staggering hypocrisy" over its new ad campaign that urges smokers to quit.

The Marlboro maker said the move was "an important next step" in its aim to "ultimately stop selling cigarettes".

But Cancer Research UK said the firm was just trying to promote its smoking alternatives, such as "heated tobacco".

"This is a staggering hypocrisy," it said, pointing out the firm still promotes smoking outside the UK.

"The best way Philip Morris could help people to stop smoking is to stop making cigarettes," George Butterworth, Cancer Research UK's tobacco policy manager said.

Firstly, what the hell is "heated tobacco" ?

HERE is the advert for heating tobacco instead of burning it while smoking the product.

This sounds like just another idea from the tobacco manufacturers that will keep us addicted to their smoking products.

I would suggest that we should give this new product a very wide berth.

Never heard of those self-heating cigarettes before, and as I am a non-smoker anyway, I will be very unlikely to try them.

Also, as a non-smoker too these things do not come into my daily interest.

What I find exasperating is the fact that all of the other addictive drugs are restricted or banned by the government, but the even more addictive substances like smoking tobacco and drinking alcohol have not been touched.
