NHS waste handler stripped of contracts.

Post by papa_umau on Tue 09 Oct 2018, 12:50 pm

A firm has been stripped of NHS contracts after hundreds of tonnes of waste from hospitals was allowed to pile up at its sites.

Health Minister Stephen Barclay said new arrangements have been made with Mitie to replace the service by Healthcare Environment Services (HES).

"NHS services continue to operate as normal", Mr Barclay told MPs.

HES has said it had highlighted the need to invest in the UK's "ageing" incinerator network for clinical waste.

In a statement to Parliament, Mr Barclay said NHS Improvement concluded that HES "failed to demonstrate that they were operating within their contractual limits.

"Consequently, 15 NHS Trusts served termination notices to HES formally to terminate their contracts at 4pm on Sunday," he said.

I think we were all shocked when we first saw this item on the BBC TV News and when I saw a dead alligator head in a clinical waste bag in the Daily Record this morning I was shocked even more.

I wonder who is going to deal with this dangerous waste now ?

Yes, and I was also reading that the Scottish government have dropped many of these private NHS waste-disposal deals too.

What needs to happen now is that more of these specialised furnaces will need to be built to get rid of this massive pile of dangerous waste.

The original waste disposal firm that lost the English contracts did complain that there were not enough working incinerators to use to get rid of the stockpiles of clinical waste.

Maybe they were right about that.

I bet we will never be able to get at the truth about this.

I don't think the government want to tell us the truth about this dangerous waste mountain.

At one time the NHS and Veterinary Surgeries had their own incinerators specifically for this.

Did not know that HG, but I am not surprised at that, as this government is the most centralisational government that we have seen for a very long time.

And, what is worse is that, as usual, the people who get these contracts are the privateers who are friends of the Tories.

Maybe all of the small incinerators were not up to spec' as far as emissions are concerned.

Even while the big incinerator companies are private they are more easy to examine by the authorities.

Yes, I suppose it is true that the few big incinerator companies can be more easily inspected than the hundreds of small incinerators would, or should, be.

Something definitely needs done about this hospital waste mountain.

The thought about the diseases that might be hiding and growing in that waste gives me the shivers.
