    Is gadget insurance a rip-off ?

Post by papa_umau on Mon 01 Oct 2018, 11:31 am

Once upon a time it was just our wallets and keys that we needed when we left the house, today there's a good chance you've got a pricey smartphone in your pocket and a tablet or laptop in your bag.

Research from insurance company Esure even went as far as to suggest that the typical commuter carries more than 4,000 worth of gadgets in their bag made up of Blackberries, iphones, laptops, e-readers, ipads and other tablets.

This puts us all at an increased risk of theft, so what's the best way to insure your gadgets?

Read the whole report from Moneywise HERE

Many of us, including myself, carry a lot of valuable tech around with us all day and this generates targets for the thieves.

What with my typical load of a laptop, a smartphone, and a smartwatch, I carry about something like 15000 in valuable kit.

Theft is obviously the main concern, but dropping and breaking or dropping in water any of these items means that to buy a new one when they cannot easily get repaired is a cost that many of us just could not bear.

I do have insurance for all of my valuables, but my choices might not compare well with yours, so I think that reading the Moneywise article is a good way to start.

I have my laptop insured as I use it all the time away from home, I might think about insuring my phone too. Thanks for the tip Paps.

I neither have my school laptop nor my smartphone insured.

Maybe I am tempting providence by doing that, but how I look at it is that I take great care with my electronic kit and if it gets stolen it will be my own fault.

If it gets broken then that will by through my lack of care too.

    It's your risk Angie.

We don't force anybody to do anything here on ROB.
