Ban on nuisance calls comes into force.

Post by papa_umau on Tue 11 Sep 2018, 11:24 am

New measures have been introduced to protect households from the misery of nuisance calls.

People will now have the choice to opt-in to be contacted by companies offering to settle personal injury or payment protection insurance claims.

Rogue companies that break the rules could be fined up to £500,000 by the Information Commissioner’s Office.

Previously, people had to opt-out of receiving such calls by registering with the free Telephone Preference Service or withdraw their consent while on the call.

The new powers will force the caller to check they have household’s consent before they make the call.

These plans to clamp down on nuisance calls were announced in May.

Sadly, I think that because many of these calls originate from abroad this rule will not effect how they do business.

That seems like a forward step Paps.

Mind you, I think you are right that the attacks we get from foreign firms will not be effected by this.

The idea of having to "opt-in" to receive such calls should virtually kill off the calls that originate in the UK that we just do not want.

I guess we are just going to have to wait and see how this develops.

Great news Papa, as I get totally sick of these useless calls.

I will easily know if these calls stop coming to any degree.

I have beaten them already by getting a phone guardian.

This clever bit of software stops any calls that are either withdrawn or are on the block list.

HERE is The Décor 2600 from Amazon.

This is the one that I use.
