Sir Norman Bettison's four counts of misconduct in a public office have been dropped.

A former chief inspector accused of trying to blame Liverpool fans for the 1989 Hillsborough disaster has had all charges against him dropped.

Sir Norman Bettison, then of South Yorkshire Police, had faced four counts of misconduct in a public office.

He was accused of telling lies about the "culpability of fans" and his role in the wake of the tragedy.

Prosecutors said insufficient evidence meant there was "no real prospect of securing a conviction".

I think that it is outrageous that another bigwig can get away with "murder" when the prosecution service seem to be unable to find enough evidence to prove what this man did at Hillsborough.

    Any comments folks ?

This is not finished in any way. Even if Bettison manages to wheedle out of these charges there are still four officials to still come to court and there are private prosecutions to come too.

Yes, trying to go back on his comment that it was the Liverpool fans that caused the deaths is one thing but to have all charges dropped is another thing entirely.

Bettison would have to be careful if he ever visits Liverpool again.

This has been one royal cockup ever since that fateful day when the gates were opened to let thousands more fans come in than the stadium could handle.

Someone NEEDS to pay for this awful tragedy.

And sadly, in the past the most senior of the ones in charge usually get away with it.

What happened to the epithet that "The buck stops here".
