Electric cars: Charge points could be requirement in all new build homes.

Post by papa_umau on Mon 09 Jul 2018, 11:46 am

New homes in suburban England would need to be fitted with electric car charging points under a government proposal to cut emissions

Ministers also want new street lights to come with charge points wherever there's on-street parking.

Details of a sales ban on new conventional petrol and diesel cars by 2040 are also expected to be set out.

The strategy comes at a time when the government is facing criticism for failing to reduce carbon emissions.

The government's target is to reduce the UK's greenhouse gas emissions by at least 80% of 1990 levels by 2050.

As usual, we are going to be left behind by many of the other industrialised nations as we crawl on into the future of vehicle emissions.

Instead of leading the world we are going to be the runners up in being a totally green country.

I saw an advert for a German company: Ubitricity, as OVO Energy, that are seemingly installing many thousands of charging points in lamp standards in their own country.

Maybe they will get the contract to do the same in Britain.

Find a link to their site here: https://www.ovoenergy.com/electric-cars/urban-charging?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIysfPuqaZ3AIVV4XVCh0TtAY-EAAYASAAEgKnL_D_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds&dclid=CNnksL6mmdwCFY4N0wodq_cD4Q

    Thanks for the link Zathrus.

Ubitricity, ( a German company ), will probably be working with OVO-Energy, a Bristol-based company, to install a lot of these local public chargers.

This is still way into the future and not until there are thousands of electric vehicles on the British roads that would use them.

Before many people like me, ( who would love to own an electric car ), commit to buying electric a few things are going to have to be sorted out.

1). They are going to have to get a lot cheaper.

2). They are going to have to have batteries that are more quickly charged and that have a far greater range.

3). There is going to have to be many more fast chargers for easy access for everybody.

Once these three points have been sorted out we are going to find a flood of new electric vehicles coming onto our roads.

I will be first in that particular queue.

You are dead right about that Angie.

We really don't know what will come first as it is a chicken and egg situation.

Whether the high number of electric vehicles will come first or if the eventual high numbers of charging points, as with Ubitricity, will come first, I don't know, but once the flood-gates open these new vehicles on our roads will change motoring in Britain forever.

The quicker the better I say.
