Petrol prices in record monthly rise, says RAC.

Post by papa_umau on Tue 05 Jun 2018, 11:48 am

Petrol prices rose by 6p a litre in May - the biggest monthly increase since the RAC began tracking prices 18 years ago.

Average petrol prices hit 129.4p a litre, while average diesel prices also rose by 6p to 132.3p a litre.

The RAC said a "punitive combination" of higher crude oil prices and a weaker pound was to blame for the increases.

It pointed out that oil prices broke through the $80-a-barrel mark twice in May - a three-and-a-half year high.

Fuel prices up again when many people are now seriously considering going "emission free" by buying electric cars.

Having owned a fully electric car for two years now, ( A Nissan leaf Ascenta ), I am very pleased that I not only now don't contribute directly to the poisonous emissions that are belching out of all other internal combustion engines onto our streets, but I am also EXTREMELY pleased that my cost of motoring is now cut to a quarter of what it used to be.

We cannot all afford to buy electric vehicles.

I have been looking into buying a Leaf van, but they are still outwith my finances.

Yes, in my mind two things are going to have to be fixed before people are going to buy electric cars in large enough numbers.

1). Range anxiety is going to have to be relieved with better batteries.

    And

2). The cost of these types of vehicles has to come down a good way yet.

Surely the ever increasing cost of fuel must be driving the road-users to want to own an electric vehicle.

Sound like good common sense to me.

I believe that the rise of the sales of hybrids is the first step - like me - for many to go to fully electric vehicles.

Once they become cheaper I can see a massive rise in sales for zero-emission vehicles.
