WH Smith voted UK's worst High Street shop in Which? survey.

Post by papa_umau on Mon 28 May 2018, 12:29 pm

WH Smith has been voted the worst retailer on the UK High Street in a survey of more than 10,000 consumers.

Customers complained the shops were out-of-date, products were expensive and staff were rude in the survey by consumer group Which?

Cosmetics chain Lush, discounter Savers and toy chain Smyths Toys came top in the survey, which asked shoppers for their thoughts on about 100 retailers.

WH Smith said just 184 shoppers had commented on its stores in the survey.

I am not one bit surprised that WH Smith has had this very unfavourable report laid at it's door, as after the scandal of them overcharging for hospital goods we have been drawn to what is going on in the rest of the shops.

Any big chain should know that if it does not look after it's customers it will very quickly get found out and punished for bad customer service.

WH Smith is going down and down in customer reputation and they do not seem to either want or need to do anything about it.

Hell mend em I say, as if they make no effort to work with their customers this is going to be the next high-street shop to go under.

Yes, these are the signs that we see just before any retail company goes bust.

    I say; watch this space.

I think that most of us will be watching that "space" Papa, as bigger companies than that are going down the tubes here every day.

The number of British businesses going bust is now at a four years high.

    Very true Angie.

Every time I walk down the high street I see more and more big stores with boarded up windows.

Where this will end I have no clue, but one thing is sure, and that is that people on the internet will have the best deals available to them while the people who are not connected to the internet will struggle to get decent prices.

We lost our M&S a few weeks back, not that I went in there much.

Our town centre consists of coffee shops, fashion jewellery shops, three different pound stores, recruitment agencies, a Christian Bookshop, one health food shop, a wool shop, a hardware store, a discount general store, a couple of female clothing stores, a Wilko, Charity shops, a world food shop, two Polish stores, and a Gurkha restaurant. Eclectic mix. All the bigger stores are out of town.

Yes HG that is the trend, no doubt.

You could have also included Bookmakers and pubs in your list.

Only a couple of Bookies. they don't really figure in my life; but I should have thought of pubs! Rolling Eyes In the town centre there are eight I can think of right at this minute, with many others in the outlying streets and estates. Not one on my estate though, nor a shop, for some unknown reason.

Local shops, for some reason are getting scarce too. I live in a quite modern large estate, but no shop in my estate either, while there is a small Pakistani-run shop at the "bottom-end" of the town. ( That's not an opinion BTW ).

I find those little shops great for unusual foods. (great experimenter) We have our multi-ethnic store, which has African, Carribbean, Nepalese, Indian, Chinese, etc.. Very helpful Gurkha family run it. we also have Polish stores where I can get lovely cured meats, and Raspberry or Cherry Jaffa cakes!
One of our discount hardware stores is run by Sikhs, and a newsagent is Hindu! I love the multicultural vibe, and I must try the Gurkha restaurant before I move!

    What a great story HG.

We do not have as many "other" cultures in our shops in Scotland as the Pakistani and Sikh/Indian people have sewn up the corner shops.

There is one shop in a nearby town that specialises in Polish foods, and like you, I love their sausage and spicy breads.

Strangely, in our local ASDA, we have a full quarter of an aisle that specialises in Polish foods too. Maybe that is because many polish soldiers settled there after the war.

And that is also a good thing, even although I seldom shop in Tesco.
