Boris Johnson: No 10's post-Brexit customs plans 'crazy'

Post by papa_umau on Tue 08 May 2018, 11:35 am

Boris Johnson has described one of No 10's proposals for a post-Brexit customs arrangement as "crazy".

A "customs partnership", thought to be favoured by the PM, would involve the UK collecting import tariffs on behalf of the EU.

In a Daily Mail interview, the foreign secretary said it would limit the UK's ability to do post-Brexit trade deals.

No 10 said the idea was still on the table after ministers failed to agree a customs plan last week.

The newspaper quotes the foreign secretary as saying a customs partnership would create "a whole new web of bureaucracy".

Again, it looks like Theresa May is searching for an easy way out of the bind that is prevalent in the Brexit discussion at the moment.

While few people listen to BOJO it does seem that for once he is talking sense.

    Opinions please.

It does sound like madness to collect the revenues for European companies so that we can still get a toe into any customs union.

I think this is Theresa May clutching at straws.

Yes, looking at this in a more trivial manner it does look as if it might be a way to have her cake and eat it too.

Boris might look like a buffoon but under those crazy locks sits a shrewd brain.

Theresa May does not want to make an enemy out of BOJO.

I think she already has "made an enemy" of BOJO.

He wants her job and I think he will do anything he can to ensure that he gets it.

I hope not; 'Plastic Maggie May' is the only one keeping him from the top spot; and with the current rampant corruption in the Tory Party, he needs keeping down. We don't want our own home grown equivalent of POTUS in charge.

BTW; Is it only me, or have others noticed the current Tory tactic at Parliamentary Question Time? Both BOJO and 'Germy' Hunt exiting the Chamber at Warp factor 5 in order to escape answering a question directed at them particularly? I'm wondering if it is the new approved Tory policy.

Nice one HG. Yes, I too have spotted this happening.

Whatever we might think of Theresa May, she is always the one that gets caught with the difficult questions.

I would not be one bit surprised if Brexit pust her in the hospital with stress.
