Call for 'rights for grandparents' law.

Post by papa_umau on Mon 07 May 2018, 4:10 pm

MPs are calling for the government to enshrine in law the right for grandparents to see their grandchildren after a divorce.

They want an amendment to the Children's Act, which would include a child's right to have a close relationship with members of their extended family.

The change would also cover aunts and uncles seeing nieces and nephews.

The Ministry of Justice said it would consider the proposal.

The current rules mean relatives have to apply to court to gain access rights to a child and then have a child arrangement order - or CAO - put in place.

Well folks, do you think that grandparents and aunts and uncles should have rights in order for them to have contact with their grandchildren and nieces and nephews after a parental divorce ?

As in many cases grandparents finish up being child-minders anyway, I think that they should have recognition in law too.

Sounds like good common sense however you look at it.

Yes, grandparents should be protected by law just as much as the parents are when it comes to the care of the children.

In may modern countries around the world the grandparents get more direct influence in bringing up their grandchildren. Only rightly so.
