Failings at private hospitals repeated across the country.

    Private hospitals warned over surgeons

Some of the failings that allowed rogue surgeon Ian Paterson to harm patients have been found to be widespread across private hospitals, inspectors say.

The Care Quality Commission said it was concerned about the "old-fashioned" approach to consultants which led to a lack of monitoring and checks.

The regulator said it meant there was a "real danger" poor practices were not being picked up or challenged.

Private hospitals said they were responding quickly to the findings.

The CQC looked at 206 private hospitals in what was the first comprehensive review of the sector.

I am sure that most of us know that the Tory government do not like interfering with their buddies in the private health sector, but after the report from the Care Quality Commission, ( CQC ), it looks like they are going to have to do this if patent's lives are not to be put at more risk.

    Not before time, I say.

I don't think that these private hospitals come under the same scrutiny as the NHS hospitals do.

Maybe that is part of the problem.

I am sure that you are right there Zathrus.

And yet, one might think that these private hospitals should be something for the NHS to strive for.

Other way round, it would seem.

As I see it, they have beautiful receptions and entrance-halls, and their consultants make lots of money, but what happens behind closed doors in the private hospitals is something we ordinary people are not going to find out about.

The Care Quality Commission or, ( CQC ), are the body that are supposed to regulate the NHS and the private hospitals in Britain, but I am not too sure just how well they look into the private health sector.

Read about the "CQC" HERE and make up your own minds.

The problem with private hospitals is they don't have Senior Doctors on scene at all times, and , as they are not part of the NHS, they cannot have junior doctors either. Therefore, the onus falls squarely on the Nursing staff for night emergencies. There are no ICU or HDU in private hospitals either, so if something goes wrong, the private hospital covers its arse and calls an ambulance to take the patient back to the NHS!

That is great information HG. I did not know that that went on in private medicine.

    Thanks for the info'
