Ex-President Clinton to visit Northern Ireland.

Good Friday Agreement: Clinton visit marks anniversary

Former US president Bill Clinton is expected in Northern Ireland to mark the 20th anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement

A conference will feature key players involved in the deal including ex prime ministers Tony Blair and Bertie Ahern.

Former US Senator George Mitchell, who chaired the talks, will be among the guests in Belfast.

The agreement helped bring an end to 30 years of sectarian conflict, known as the Troubles.

What with the problems concerning the Irish border and Brexit, the hard-line attitude of the DUP, not only is the Good Friday agreement - which gave a power-sharing executive in Stormont - a beginning, but this power-sharing deal is now collapsed.

With the intransigence of the two sides in Northern Ireland I cannot see any deal that might revive the power-sharing executive born from the Good Friday agreement, coming back.

I cannot see that a visit from an ex-American president will do much to solve this problem.

Still something to remind us what the Good Friday agreement was all about.

With the bad feeling that still persists between the two main factions in Northern Ireland the God Friday agreement was always hanging on a razor's edge.

Now that Brexit is in the mix and the power sharing executive has already collapsed the chances of it all becoming right are very slim.
