    HMRC 'tax refund' scam.

Post by papa_umau on Tue 03 Apr 2018, 12:07 pm

HMRC 'tax refund' scams are doing the rounds again - how to tell if the email or phone call you receive is real.

In the latest tax man con, victims are being told they owe large amounts of money that can only be repaid through iTunes vouchers.

Fraudulent emails purporting to be from the tax man have been sweeping the internet for years, promising rebates and refunds, that never existed in the first place.

The messages that have been known to take the form of emails, texts and even phone calls, allege that the person is owed money - to the tune of up to thousands.

In some cases, the caller claims an 'outstanding payment' is owed - and if not paid immediately - could lead to their arrest.

Read more on this from The Mirror HERE

One might think that as soon as "repayment" can be made using iTunes vouchers, that the bells of suspicion should start ringing immediately.

Now only are these tricks "nasty" ones, but threatening "arrest" for non-payment will be extremely frightening to some.

Please read all of the link as knowledge of such scams makes them easier to recognise and avoid.

We are inundated with this stuff and everywhere we go we have to be very careful.

    It is a dog-eat-dog world.

That one in particular appears regularly throughout the year and I, for one, am ready for it and do not bite.

That's the way to be Angie, but the people who organise such scams are so clever that many people who are not so aware as you are get caught out.
