    Millennial railcard website crashes.

Post by papa_umau on Tue 13 Mar 2018, 12:00 pm

This heavily discounted millenial railcard has been so oversubscribed that the website selling it has crashed.

The one-year railcard for 26 to 30-year-olds will cost 30 and offer a third off most fares in England, Wales and Scotland.

It first went on sale nationwide at about 07:30 GMT but "exceptional demand" has caused the website to fail.

Only 10,000 railcards are being released during the trial, and it is only available to buy online.

A Rail Delivery Group spokeswoman for the Rail Delivery Group, which represents the train companies and Network Rail said:

"We're sorry to those who have been unable to buy a trial 26-30 Railcard this morning. This is due to the exceptionally high volume of traffic on the 26-30 Railcard website,

"We are increasing the capacity on the website to better manage the high level of traffic.

Railcards are still available to purchase and people should keep checking @_Railcards Twitter and Facebook pages for updates."

I always wonder why it is that such sites always seem to crash because they have not been built to handle the requests that should have been prepared for.

This always looks like poor planning and short-sightedness just about every time.

That's not surprising, as the discount is quite large.

The company that runs the website should have planned better for the high response.

The thing is that this is a once only offer and it might never happen again.

Those that want to get the benefit of this cut should get on with it again once the website is back up-and-running.

I am thinking of university students particularly, as travel between home and the uni can add up to a very expensive outlay.

    Information:

The 26 to 30 millennial railcard is already SOLD OUT.

There will be a launch of another discount railcard early next year.

The discounted railcards need to be re-designed

Read THIS from The Independent Newspaper and find out why these discount railcards need to be seriously re-designed.

Also, in the above link, see the fat-cat tax dodge where they can get first class travel, free food and drink, and a sleeper, if they want to, without paying any VAT.

With these new railcard designs being only limited in supply and only available around London it is grossly unfair to the rest of the train-travelling public.

These cards should be available to everyone who is willing to pay for a year of travel up-front and they should not be designed to run out after a few weeks of sales.

    Anybody ?
