Regulator steps in to protect "push payment scam" victims

Push payment scams can occur when a fraudster tricks a victim into transferring money from their account, often by claiming to be a trusted person or financial institution.

Is your bank doing enough to beat the scammers?

At present, many banks will refuse to reimburse the victims of these scams as victims have chosen to transfer money themselves.

However, customers are often treated differently depending on the individual polices of each financial provider.

The regulator has now announced plans to implement a code of practice from September 2018 to ensure all customers are treated fairly and equally.

This is something that has needed to be done for a very long time as many people fall pray to these extremely clever scams.

Even just being aware is good for us as we often sleep-walk into these rip-offs.

I don't think the victim has a leg to stand on here if the money is transferred with the person's knowledge.

Sometime I do not think we look critically enough at such actions.

Yes, the scammers rely on our laziness to be able to penetrate our private lives.

We collude in this without even knowing it.

It is either laziness or carelessness on our parts.

I don't think we can put all of the blame on the victims as without the scammers being active we would be quite safe.
