MPs to get 1.8% pay rise - to 77,379

Post by papa_umau on Fri 02 Mar 2018, 11:41 am

MPs will get a 1.8% pay rise for 2018-19, taking their overall salary to 77,379 from 1 April, the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority said.

The salary for chairmen of Commons select committees will also increase by 1.8% to 15,509, which is added to their basic salary for being an MP.

It is a bigger increase on the 1.4% pay rise MPs got last year.

IPSA says it is in line with its policy of adjusting MPs' pay at the same rate as changes in the public sector wages.

Members of the Scottish Parliament were given a 0.6% pay rise to 62,149 a year in December.

I have no clue why the main parliament in Britain always seems to get higher pay rises than the rest of the public servants.

Not just that Papa, as most of us are stuck with the rise that is due because of the inflation rate.

Politicians, from my memory, are never kept down to the inflation rate when they get their pay rises.

The bosses of the big corporations and even the big public services still do not get rises that are fair or equitable either.

Yes, the fat-cats, who sit on the remuneration committees, ( where their pay-rises are decided ), always give themselves exactly what they think they can get away with.

These people who are to get the rises in salary should NOT be made up of the ones who are to receive this money.

Got to agree with that Papa.

The politicians and the fat-cats should never be allowed to get pay rises bigger than the inflation rate.

Their driving force is to try to maintain the "differential" value, where their salaries are not eroded - in comparison with the ordinary workers - by just sticking to the inflation rate.
