PFI companies to face windfall tax on massive profits.

Post by papa_umau on Mon 19 Feb 2018, 11:30 am

PFI companies should face windfall tax on 'enormous profits' says union.

Corporation tax has been slashed from 30 per cent when many of the deals were signed to 19 per cent now, further boosting the profits made on PFI projects, Unison says.

Right from the start I knew that the Private Finance Initiative contracts were going to cost the taxpayers much more than if these contracts were paid from by the treasury, up-front.

They looked like "jam tomorrow" when they first started and this has been proved to be right in the fullness of time.

The great attraction for these types of contracts was that they cost nothing up-front.

The cost is only seen after the contract has been paid back over some thirty years.

With what is now known, PFI and PPI contracts are now not considered for the building of public contracts.

Certainly not any longer in Scotland.

HERE is an interesting comment on this from Jubilee Scotland.org.

This reminds me of the days of Radio Rentals when a lot of people got their TV by renting it.

It did not take long or the people to find out that paying a rental over a long period was no way to get anything.

Buying on the "never-never" also used to be a way to do it but fewer people are now doing that now too.

Maybe that is why the rhyming slang "Radio Rental" actually means MENTAL.

The buying on credit is now based upon the low interest rates that are available to some customers.

I absolutely agree that PFI is one of the classic Government sponsored Rip offs; the NHS has no choice but to suffer this Private Finance Initiative, deliberately set up to extract more cash from the NHS for infrastructure.

There is a similar scheme, although I cannot remember the name, for Medical Equipment and top end Electronics.

Didn't know that HG, but I am not surprised.

We have four hospitals here in Scotland built by the PPP system while Tony Blair was the PM and all we have got from them is that we cannot get free parking during the pay-back period.

All other hospitals in Scotland are free for staff and visitors to park.
