Was 2017 the worst year for UK terrorism?

Was 2017 the worst year for UK terrorism?

A broad measure of counter-terrorism activity suggests that 2017 was indeed the most challenging year for the police and security services for decades.

The worst single year of The Troubles was 1972 in which 470 people died and almost 5,000 more people were injured.

The police also recorded 1,382 explosions and seized more than 180,000 rounds of ammunition.

Last year's attacks at Westminster Bridge, Manchester Arena, London Bridge and a mosque in north London killed 36 people.

As more and more ISIS strongholds are overrun by government troops this caliphate is going to simply fragmentise and go underground in order to start to plan many more single attacks on the soft targets where we all feel the most comfortable and safe.

This kind of terrorism is the hardest kind to defend against, and our police are going to have to redouble their efforts to destroy these small cells.

An almost impossible task to ask of them.

I don't think we can compare the terrorism during the Irish "troubles" with the terrorism that we are getting nowadays from The middle East.

Still based along religious lines but the supporters of hard line Sharia laws can find easy reason for what they do.

Being an atheist I am never disappointed just how these kinds of strife are always coming from a religious base.

I can see how such actions might confirm your atheistic stance Papa.

Although I am not an atheist I can certainly see where you are coming from there.

From a Pagan standpoint I feel very sad. When it comes right down to it, all people, of whatever colour, ethnicity or religion, all want the same thing, that is a safe, secure place to bring up their families. Unfortunately, religion and politics get in the way, over and over again, and have since the dawn of time. Religion says 'You must hate him because he does not worship the same way as we right thinking people do'. Politics say the same because another country has different customs, keeping the people in ignorance. It is this ignorance which breeds the fear of the strange and unknown, and the fear, whipped up by the priests and politicians, which leads to the hatred which starts the wars, both big and little.
