Illegal puppy trade surges in UK ready for Christmas.

Post by papa_umau on Tue 14 Nov 2017, 12:25 pm

Record numbers of illegal puppies are being smuggled across the Channel into the UK ready for the "Christmas trade".

In three undercover operations the Dogs Trust seized 100 young dogs in just one week from Folkestone and Dover ports.

But the UK's largest dog welfare charity said the clampdown was "just the tip of the iceberg", and feared people looking for a cheap puppy would fuel the illegal trade.

The pups are found in "shocking conditions", with severe health issues.

I am sure that many of you will have herd the saying of "A puppy is not just for Christmas", but every year we see parents buying puppies for their demanding children, many of which just finish up running wild on the streets which have never been chipped, neutered, or even collar-tagged.

This has to be the worst kind of cruelty which keeps the puppy-farming crooks both at home and abroad, in the money.

Please think again when you want to buy a puppy for Christmas.

As usual, you are first with this news.

I saw it on the BBC news last night where the police and the RSPCA raided a farm on the North-East coast and found and removed around ninety dogs and puppies.

    Read about it here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-north-east-orkney-shetland-41983846

This raid might not have much of an impact on the supply of illegally-obtained puppies for Christmas.

Sadly I think you are right that there are many more sources of illegal puppies than just this one.

Even if the pedigree ones available might not come with the certificates they might need, these dogs usually command very large buying premiums.

It is the public that keep these illegal puppy farms and the illegal transportation of such animals by providing a market for them.

Like with many other things a cheap price almost always gets the trade.

The cheapest prices for these puppies is always with the illegal breeders.

The people who buy from them should be ashamed of themselves.

I cannot argue with that Angie.

In fact, I think it will be the same people who bought the puppies from the illegal breeders that will eventually see the grown-up puppies on the loose, roaming the streets, and killing sheep in the fields.

I have always wondered why it should be the case that the poorest and most disadvantaged people in and out of the third world will always have a dog wandering about somewhere.
