    BBC's rip-off Britain Holidays are a rip-off.

UKECC advises consumers on BBC's Rip-Off Britain: Holidays

BBC1's Rip-Off Britain: Holidays has featured the UK European Consumer Centre for the second time already since 2015.

The centre was included in the part of the programme on Monday 12 January about fraudulent use of  holidaymakers' debit and credit cards and about the 'chargeback' system operated by card issuers and banks:

Andy Allen, UK ECC director, said: "'Chargeback' was originally developed by payment card issuers to protect consumers in cases of fraudulent authorisation of their card (e.g. following a theft or card cloning).

But now chargeback may also apply in order to reverse consumers' authorised card payments in cases of breaches of consumer rights or when the recipient is bankrupt.

"This means that when consumers have bought goods with a credit card, in most countries/situations, they will have a right to be reimbursed if the trader does not respect their consumer rights.

Some of the reasons to turn to the bank for reimbursement are when the trader doesn't respect the consumers' rights of withdrawal or cancellation of the contract, if the trader has gone bankrupt, or in cases of non-authorised transaction.Read

We have come to know the BBC's Rip-Off Britain programme as good and safe advice, but this report from UKECC seems to prove that the advice they give is not always safe at all.

Something else we may need after we leave the EU I think.

The UK European Consumer Centre is a body that might keep us safer if our own government cannot, or will not do it.

Yes, a lot of protections that we have come to take for granted will be lost and will have to be renewed if and when we leave the EU.

This also tells us that we cannot really trust the advice that comes from the Rip-Off Britain TV show.

It certainly looks like they do not research their programme content well enough to give advice.
