    Record surge in CO2.

Post by papa_umau on Mon 30 Oct 2017, 11:39 am

Record surge in atmospheric CO2 seen in 2016

Concentrations of CO2 in the Earth's atmosphere surged to a record high in 2016, according to the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).

Last year's increase was 50% higher than the average of the past 10 years.

Researchers say a combination of human activities and the El Nio weather phenomenon drove CO2 to a level not seen in 800,000 years.

Scientists say this risks making global temperature targets largely unattainable.

This year's greenhouse gas bulletin produced by the WMO, is based on measurements taken in 51 countries.

Research stations dotted around the globe measure concentrations of warming gases including carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide.

The figures published by the WMO are what's left in the atmosphere after significant amounts are absorbed by the Earth's "sinks", which include the oceans and the biosphere.

Well folks, although this is not just a rip-off of the Brits, as it is a rip-off of all of the air-breathers of the world I find it alarming that for all of the rhetoric about cleaning up the earth and the pollution in the atmosphere things are actually getting worse, not better.

If things continue to go down this path I wonder how long it will be before the earth is no longer livable ?

Yeah, I saw this on the evening news.

I find it amazing how government after government are claiming their latest renewable policies and yet the CO2 rises and rises.

Something else is going to have to be done if our earth is not going to be ruined in a few years.

We have seen this scenario in many sci-fi movies of the past where the earth is so poisoned that many trillions has to be spent to build spaceships that can take us to planets around nearby stars.

Is it actually going to happen ?

It might happen if the CO2 is not dealt with very quickly.

The problem is that if the CO2 output is not tackled we do not have the sci-fi option of going to another world; we are stuck with this one.

    That's terrible news.

What with all of the so-called renewable energy sources now coming on stream, there should be no need for the CO2 levels to rise.

Either that or we are being hoodwinked by these fraudsters

One of the greatest polluters of them all, America, just for it's great size, should be the country that is more against pollution and for a clean earth.

Because of the powerful oil and gas lobbyists and the now support given by the rich and foolish president America is doing very little to try to clean up it's act.

( See my latest entry on this subject in "Climate experts in US storm" )HERE

Eventually, I believe, that this habit of sticking one's head in the sand and leaving backsides exposed is going to be the death of this beautiful planet.
