    Bombardier gets help from Airbus.

Post by papa_umau on Tue 17 Oct 2017, 11:46 am

European aerospace firm Airbus is to take a majority stake in Bombardier's C-Series jet project.

Bombardier has faced a series of problems over the plane, most recently a trade dispute in the US that imposed a 300% import tariff.

Bombardier's Northern Ireland's director Michael Ryan said the deal was "great news" for the Belfast operation.

About 1,000 staff work on the C-Series at a purpose-built factory in Belfast, mostly making the plane's wings.
Airbus and Bombardier's chief executives said the deal - which will see Airbus take a 50.01% stake - would help to boost sales.

The deal also gives Airbus the right to buy full control of the C-Series project in 2023.

Here is a photograph of the Airbus CS 300:

While this is good news in the face of the 300% protectionism attack from America I was wondering if we would lose these jobs too if the Brexit negotiations fail and Airbus pulls out of Britain.

The severe import charges that are being put on such manufacturing capabilities by America AGAINST a European plane-making company are unlawful and could bring down the import/export relationship we have with them.

And, what will happen to the Irish Bombardier wing-makers when and if we pull out of Europe without a trade deal ?

Yes, that is another subject that will have to be dealt with more sooner than later.

Heavy import charges, or "protectionism" as it is called, are severely frowned upon by almost all of the trading countries of the world.

I do not know if these actions are illegal, but if they are the law should be applied and enforced in order to try to stop this from happening.

It is mostly for this reason that countries make trade deals with other countries.

None of the trading nations want a tit-for-tat battle between countries that practice protectionism, as these polices help no-one in the long run.
