Volkswagen to electrify all it's cars by 2030

Post by papa_umau on Tue 26 Sep 2017, 12:32 pm

VW Group makes 300 models globally, will electrify them all by 2030

Along with the gleaming concept cars and new production models unveiled at last week's Frankfurt auto show, auto-company executives also make news.

Often a company's CEO or product chief will announce directions for the future, whether they're hints about upcoming vehicles or new powertrain plans.

Matthias Mller, chairman of the VW Group, did just that in announcing what the giant carmaker calls its "Roadmap E" for electric cars.

Volkswagen, of course, has been hammered for two years by its diesel-emission cheating scandal, which continues to reverberate in Germany even as it starts to wind down in North America.

It has made more, and more public, announcements of future electric cars than any other German maker.

Now, it says it will bring no fewer than 80 new electric vehicles to market globally by 2025a significant jump from the 30 it had promised in June 2016.

Well, as one of the most world-leading groups for innovation, it looks as if VW are going to start the ball rolling on the growth of electric cars before any of the other carmakers do.

Mind you, something tells me that this promise by VW is going to give the rest of the car industry a shot in the arm for the future.

The more the merrier I say.

The more car manufacturers that go electric and plug-in Hybrid means that the faster they do the quicker the oil and gas giants who make diesel and petrol will be blown away.

Also, once there is some real competition between these EV manufacturers we should expect to see the cars and vans of the future to come down in price.

Dead right, and I once made the same comparisons with flat and wide-screen TVs, as at the beginning they cost thousands, but now one can buy a 50" smart flatscreen TV for around 350 pounds.

That is the direct effect off proper competition.

This could happen with electric cars too.

I think VW are just trying to get our minds off the emissions con that they are still paying for.

    Still good news though.

They, ( Volkswagen ), are still one of the world's biggest motor manufacturers in the world.

If they go all-electric they will put a lot of pressure on the other car-makers to do the same.

I still think that China will give the lead here long before VW get going.

Japan, and Nissan are already the world leaders of sales of electric cars with their Leaf, the newest model, coming out early in 2018, ( with the newest big battery option in 2019, giving a range of about 200 miles on a charge ), is bound to keep hold of this claim.

I am certainly going to buy one of them in 2019.
