Are the mini-supermarkets ripping us off ?

Post by papa_umau on Tue 26 Sep 2017, 11:59 am

'We're being ripped-off!': The supermarket that'll charge you 53% more for the SAME item in a smaller store

An exclusive Mirror investigation has revealed the supermarkets that are tweaking their prices by store size - and how shopping in another branch can save you a small fortune.

Nipping out to your local mini-supermarket for a top-up shop may be more convenient, but it could come at a cost.

A Mirror probe found products can be marked up by more than 50% compared with chains’ full-size stores.

In one case, a 425g bottle of Heinz Original Salad Cream cost £1.50 at Sainsbury’s main store in Brighton, but in the chain’s Local branch less than a mile away, the same item was 80p more (£2.30) – a 53% mark-up.

They say that convenience stores in-town are more expensive to run and that is the excuse they give for marking up the same products by up-to fifty percent.

Get the full report from The Mirror HERE

The truth is that they want to make you pay over the odds for the in-town convenience.

What this adds up to is the fact that the big out-of-town supermarkets killed off the small in-town shops only to re-open the same small shops at a premium.

No wonder more and more people are now going to Aldi and Lidl !

Got to agree with you there Paps.

I always resist using the small versions of the supermarkets in-town as I always use the Co-operative when I cannot get to Lidl and Aldi.

I do exactly the same as in my home-town we have a well stocked Co-operative.

The main shop is always done at one of the brand new edge of town Aldis or Lidls.

To my concern the wife likes to go to Asda too.

I quite like Asda as well.

Having said that, I am one of the many thousands of converts that have started to shop at Aldi.

The big supermarkets are their own worst enemies and now that they are ripping us off at their mini-supermarkets in town I hate them even more.

Yes, in their frantic scrabble to get as many customers as possible they are in fact making a lot of enemies instead.
