Uber Loses London Operating Licence After Shock Ruling By TfL

Uber has lost its operating licence in London after a shock ruling by the capital’s transport body.

The ride-hailing app will no longer be able to offer services in their current form within the M25, despite the firm claiming 3.5 million Londoners use its app each week.

Transport for London (TfL) announced its decision on Friday.

The authority wrote in its decision: “TfL has concluded that Uber London Limited is not fit and proper to hold a private hire operator licence.”

The ramifications of this decision is going to deny many hundreds of Uber taxi-drivers a place to work and also many thousands of people the opportunity to hail an Uber cab.

I doubt if this ruling will stand as it is just too far-reaching for this to be allowed to happen.

    Any opinions ?

What I find interesting is that the authority that withdrew Uber's licence did not say exactly why they did it.

Because of this there has been a petition of over fifty-thousand signatures signed and delivered to get Uber back on the streets of London and the M25 circle.

The rest of the black taxi owners and drivers were very happy about Uber losing their licence as they were giving them some good competition.

If there is no other reason why Uber should get their licence back, the "competition" reason is a great one.

Without this competition the rest of the black taxis will just bang up their fares costs to the captured customers in and around London.

I would not be one bit surprised if it was the rest of the black taxi companies that might have triggered this action.

With the numbers rising well above fifty-thousand for the protests over Uber losing it's city licence we may find that either the authority that did it will show more reasons for doing it or they might go back on the ban.

We shall see very soon, I am sure.
