Internet giants must do more to combat terrorism.

Post by papa_umau on Tue 19 Sep 2017, 10:15 am

Internet giants must do more to combat the scourge of online extremism amid growing support from the public for a crackdown on radical material a former CIA director has said.

General David Petraeus warned that the internet offered an opportunity for a “whole new domain of warfare” and said that social media firms could do more to prevent the proliferation of terror content.

The retired general also pointed to the availability of bomb-making materials online in the wake of the attack at Parsons Green where 29 people were injured when a homemade bomb was partially detonated on a District Line train.

Get the full report from The Independent HERE

It almost seems as if the internet companies don't care that they are helping to breed terrorists when they allow people to disseminate extremist materials and discuss how to make bombs etc'.

Maybe the laws should MAKE them do this if we cannot trust them to do it on their own.

I agree, but they might start to push the freedom of speech argument.

If they do have their own watchdogs looking after what the punters do with their internet services then they should shut down such pages almost instantly without having to be forced to do it.

I would expect such loathsome stuff to be on the dark-web, but not on the free-web.

I honestly don't think they have the staff in in order to keep such a close eye on what is going up on their pages.

It takes people like us and the newspapers and the other internet-watchers to tell the big internet companies that things are going wrong.

That said, they should act much quicker in shutting down such extremist postings.

To hell with "freedom of speech" if these nut-cases are buying bomb-making materials and instructions from within Amazon.

Such information and supplies sites should be taken down by Amazon TODAY.

And, of course they do have "bots" that are capable of triggering a response to certain key words for advertising purposes.

They could use the algorithms built into these bots to immediately find who is searching for extremist materials,  weapons, and bomb-making materials.

    Then, SHUT THEM DOWN.
