Jacob Rees-Mogg is Tory favourite to succeed Theresa May.

Post by papa_umau on Tue 05 Sep 2017, 11:49 am

Jacob Rees-Mogg has emerged as party members' first choice to succeed Theresa May as Tory leader, according to the latest survey.

In a recent poll by Conservative Home, the Tory MP for North East Somerset was voted the most popular person for the leadership.

It comes after he was tipped last month by bookies as a favourite to succeed as Mrs May if she chooses to quit Downing Street.

Mr Rees-Mogg secured 23 per cent of the Conservative Home vote, while David Davis came in second place with 15 per cent and Boris Johnson followed with 7 per cent.

When the Tories start to hold polls for this reason it is a safe bet that the encumbent Theresa May is on her last legs.

They usually put up a stalking horse candidate which shows them how the voting would go and then shortly afterwards the real candidate steps up to be elected.

It is a technique that was found to be successful when the party needed to oust Maggie Thatcher.

Rees-Mogg as the PM would be just like falling out of the frying pan into the fire.

Also, His archaic views on abortion has made himself a lot of enemies in and out of the Tory party.

Read about this hard-line Tory from the Telegraph here:  http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017/09/07/tory-mps-line-disagree-jacob-rees-moggs-utterly-abhorrent-views/

Mind you if he was selected to stand for the PM's post after May has gone he too will tear the Tory party apart.

That has to be a good thing I suppose.

He will certainly do nothing about uniting the Tory party.

But, as you already said; that could be a good thing for The Labour party.

I really don't like that horrible little man.

But I guess I don't really have to like any of them I suppose.

I would really like to see another night of the long knives as far as May is concerned.

She has to be due the chop very soon.

Most of us and a great lot of Tories too are thinking along similar lines.
