    The Yellow Peril going mad.

Outraged motorists baffled after parking officer issues fines for cars parked on their own drives.

Outraged motorists have been left baffled after a parking officer issued dozens of fines for cars parked on their own driveways.

Some residents in the Essex street have even reported three or four tickets being slapped on their vehicles every day.

In a bizarrely strict parking policy, the numerous fines have been dished out on Gant's Hill, Ilford, for cars who stick out onto the public path by as little as an inch.

Despite the 1940s driveways offering inadequate space for today's motors, residents continued to be left jaw-dropped when the fines kept rolling in.

Furious Irshad Nabee, Roll Gardens Neighbourhood Association chairman, told the Ilford Recorder: Its just stupid".

I know many of you will already feel that parking enforcers are either just too diligent when they do their jobs or they are carrying out their duties to an unreasonable degree.

Where they are measuring by inches just how far these cars are sticking out of the parking bays that have to be too small in the first place, surely this is carrying their duties too far.

    Opinions please.

This is just another example of how jobsworth-types uphold the letter of the law without upholding the spirit of the law.

I hope their employers, whether private of local authority, get to grips with this and stop it right now.

Looking at photographs of the area, the pavements are quite narrow, but I feel that discretion should be applied by the wardens. If a car is grossly abusing the pavement, by not getting as far up the forecourt as possible then there should be a fine. But as long as people, wheelchairs, prams, etc., can get through without having to step into the road it's good.

According to the photos, all of the parked cars were sticking out into the path because their drives were just too short.

The long term solution to this would be the lengthening of the driveways or the widening of the paths, as has happened up and down the country many times.

The crazy solution of sticking penalty notices on every car two or three times a day, was a ludicrous thing to do.

Of course the correct solution is going to be the expensive solution, and many local authorities try to avoid spending any more money than they can get away with.
