Charlie Gard: Judge to decide where baby's life will end.

Post by papa_umau on Wed 26 Jul 2017, 11:18 am

A High Court judge is set to decide later where Charlie Gard's life will end after another dispute between his parents and hospital bosses.

Chris Gard and Connie Yates want permission to take the 11-month-old home for his final days.

But Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) said it was not practical to provide the level of life-support treatment to Charlie at the couple's London home.

It says a hospice would be a more appropriate place for him.

The court hearing is due to resume at 14:00 BST.

Well, it looks as if this awful saga is finally coming to rest.

As a parent myself I can see where the mum and dad of Charlie are coming from.

Lets hope that they do get their final wish for their little boy.

It now looks like they are going to have to take him to a hospice.

At least there they will have the palliate care that the parents need to spend a bit more time with their lad.

By whom, or when the machines are going to be switched off, is another thing to think about.

Yes, the final ruling is that Charlie will be taken to a hospice where the parents can be with him until the life-support machines are turned off.

It is proposed that this period should be about a week.

I just hope that when this we guy does die, that he does not do it while fighting for every breath. There must be a better way to do it.

I have always suspected that doctors in hospices do give small overdoses of morphine when people are close to death.

This would be the least that could be expected for Charlie Gard.

    Update....

Post by papa_umau on Sat 29 Jul 2017, 12:17 pm

It was sad news that Charlie Gard died shortly after he was transferred to a children's hospice.

Maybe it is for the best that little Charlie is now gone as he has been extremely ill for a very long time while his parents tried to get better treatment for him from the courts.

At least he is no longer in pain and after a time off mourning his parents will be able to move forward.

NOW....all we have is his funeral, which will probably be a very big one supported by thousands of people.

The fate of this little guy has touched the hearts of many people around the world and I cannot see how his funeral could be a small one.

Yes Papa, I think the funeral will finally draw a line under this heart-breaking story.

    At least I hope so.

I can understand the parents' anguish, but I think in the end they took things too far for Charlie's welfare.

I hope they have genetic counselling before they try again, and may their next baby be perfect.

Yes, if the genetic flaw in Charlie's DNA was inherited from one or both their parents, although this is not always the case, as you say HG, they should get expert advice if they want to try again.

Of course we all wish them good luck and hope that Charlie's mum quickly falls pregnant again with a genetically clear baby.
