    What next for Charlie Gard.

Post by Angie baby on Sat 15 Jul 2017, 12:06 pm

What comes next in the case of critically ill baby Charlie Gard?

With experts meeting to discuss Charlie, this might be the breakthrough his parents have been hoping for, says Joshua Rozenberg.

Connie Yates and Chris Gard have achieved more for their critically ill son in the past week than they have during the past five months of their legal battle with Great Ormond Street Hospital.

A meeting of clinical experts will be held at the hospital early next week, when they will be asked a series of questions about Charlie Gard's condition.

The exact wording has not yet been decided, but they will be questions like: does Charlie have brain damage? Is it irreversible? And so on.

Grant Armstrong, the barrister who is acting, unpaid, for Charlie's parents, has persuaded the High Court that Ms Yates should be allowed to attend the meeting.

    ..................................................................................

I am in two minds about this one:

Are these parents just clutching at straws or do they really think that modern medicine can give their baby some kind of normal existence for the future ?

Should they push this as far as they can go, or are they just going to force their baby to live a life of misery ?

I would love to hear comments from the other site-users about this.

Yes Angie, this is a terribly tragic case.

While the parents want to keep their baby alive and the hopes for betterment can still be found these high-level discussions will go on.

Eventually, I think that Charlie's awful life may have to be brought to an end in order to save this little lad from any more suffering.

As this is not my or anybody elses baby, the final say is going to eventually have to be left to the parents.

Personally, I feel the parents are in a terrible dilemma, with the little boy as the ball in a gruesome 'piggy in the middle' struggle between the Hospital, the Law and a parent's natural struggle to do their utmost for him.

I wouldn't want to call it either way.

I think that the report that will come from the American expert will, or should bring this to a conclusion.

I hear today that Charlie has been granted American Citizenship, so he can travel.
