    The rip-off tenants fees.

Post by papa_umau on Tue 27 Jun 2017, 12:02 pm

Tenant fees ARE a rip-off, says letting agent that welcomes ban

The Government's ban on tenant fees is good for business and won't mean higher rents as claimed by the industry, according to one letting agent.

Hefty charges on renters will soon be banned in a bid to relieve the pressure on people who don't own their home, it was confirmed in the Queen's Speech.

Many agents currently charge hundreds of pounds for referencing services, which tenants are obliged to pay for.

Find out more on this new law from The Daily Express HERE

What worries me about this ban is that the letting agents might only move these costs directly to rents in order to get this money back. If this happens then the renters will be no better off.

    Opinions please ?

They will not lose out on this action as they will just spread the loss onto the ordinary rents.

Sadly, I think you are right Zathrus as these people never lose out when their is so many people on the streets f Britain these days.

The result of the high-rise fire and the fact that around a hundred multi-story blocks have now been proven to be dangerous because their cladding has failed the fire test, there are going to be many more people out on the street and looking for private rented accommodation.

This could lead to a feeding frenzy from the people who own privatised rented buildings.

Yes Papa, it is going to be an awful time for the people who have been decanted out of high-rise blocks, on top of the already high numbers of homeless in Britain.

I just hope that the government protect the new renters from the private landlords, as they will see this as carte-blanche to charge what they like.

Yes, because of many homes being at risk after the cladding inspection thousands more people are going to be without homes until they are eventually given new ones that are safe.

As you say, I hope that all of these people are protected from unscrupulous private landlords because of the trouble that is bound to come with chronic shortages of decent homes for such people to live in.

Paps - WHat does the law say in Scotland about this? I know property sales are much more civilised than in England, but what about rental?

Worst placehere by far is London where there is a huge scam going as well whereby you are asked to pay the deposit BEFORE viewing the property (to secure it for you you understand....) only to turn up and find no letting agent no preperty and no deposit.

Maybe RoB should do a little feature on this?

As this is not a devolved subject, Scotland is the same as he rest of the country as far as that is concerned.

ROB is not just about what is posted by the management, it is about what the users want to see too, so if you think there should be a "little feature" on this why don't you write it here yourself ?
