British Airways CEO will not resign after big computer meltdown.

Post by papa_umau on Tue 30 May 2017, 10:58 am

British Airways CEO will not resign despite 'catastrophic' IT failure.

Alex Cruz ‘profusely apologetic’ for glitch that caused havoc at Heathrow and Gatwick airports over bank holiday weekend.

But he said the computing failure had nothing to do with the cost savings he had implemented since arriving at the airline as CEO last year and he rejected suggestions from the GMB union that outsourcing of IT roles to India had left the company vulnerable to system meltdowns.

I have already suggested that this massive world-wide computer crash highlighted a weakness of internet security that could have been sourced from Hackers in India.

I wonder if British Airways will ever come clean on this ?

One thing is certain, and that is that BA's reputation has been seriously damaged by this scandal.

After that fiasco he should have been sacked and not just left to resign.

After all, he is just an employee like many thousands more in British Airways.

I agree Zathrus. The big saying that fits exactly is: "The buck stops here", meaning it stops at the top.

Instead, it appears that the punters at the top off these companies always get protected from what would happen to the rest of us.

Willie Walsh, the CEO of the parent company, ( IAG ), International Airways Group, that owns British Airways said yesterday that there are a lot more investigations to result before any serious actions are taken.

British airways have already called for the people that were effected to claim on their travel insurance.

I read in my newspaper yesterday that a number of consumer groups are calling for all passengers that were disrupted to get compensation up-front to save them from having to pay lawyers fees for private claims.

This is not going to go away soon and it is going to cost BA a lot of money before it is sorted.

I am a bit concerned that I heave heard no more about this for a while.

I hope that they just cannot wriggle out of this one.

That indeed could have happened, but I think it was much more serious than that as almost all of the BA computers right around the world went down and took many hours to fix.

To me it looks more like a cyber attack, although I do not think that they are going to admit to that.
