Rip-off roaming banned from 15th June.

Post by papa_umau on Mon 29 May 2017, 11:02 am

Thank you EU for banning rip-off mobile roaming charges from 15 June.

The cost of using your phone in Europe will be just the same as at home ... for now.

Will Brexit reverse this hard-won victory?

Whether you voted remain or leave, the European commission has come to your aid.

Holidaymakers are about to get free mobile phone roaming across Europe and a host of other destinations from 15 June for the next two years, at least.

Following a long campaign and a series of staged roaming price cuts, the commission will finally put in place a long-cherished aim the ability of Europeans, and Brits, to make same-cost mobile calls and data downloads irrespective of which EU country they are in.

Something tells me that after Brexit is done and dusted we may find a number of advantages we used to have, that will now be LOST.

We don't really realise what we had until it is gone.

    Any comments ?

That's more like it Paps, as many of us will still be planning to spend our holidays in Europe and further afield.

I would hope that the roaming charges ban would stay after we finally get Brexit done and dusted.

So will the rest of us Zathrus.

Because everything that comes from the European Union comes via our membership of it, if we do leave by a hard Brexit we may find that a lot of things that we now take for granted might no longer be there

I do wish that the Tories would get on with it so that we will find out.

Mind you, there is no cast iron guarantee that the Tories will win the election on the 8th.

    That's a great idea Papa.

I have a friend that went to Italy on holiday a couple of years ago and because she did not switch off the data-roaming on her phone it stayed on all of the time and it cost her a fortune.

I have even noticed on my own smart-phone that it is not easy to make sure that these things are switched off.

Why they do not have that option on the drop-down menu of the home-page I have no clue.

I think they do not want that function to be easy to find and do, and that is why you have to search to find the OFF switch.

Anyway, this roaming deal is set for two years whatever happens with Brexit.

I hope that it will continue after Brexit.
