More to come from the cyber attack on the NHS

NHS cyber-attack: Bosses fear further infections from ransomware

Patients have been urged to use the NHS "wisely" as it discovers the full impact of Friday's global cyber-attack.

NHS England said there was a "complex emerging picture", amid concerns over thousands of computers being switched back on after the weekend.

Seven trusts out of 47 that were hit are still facing serious issues, but patients have been told not to turn up for appointments, unless advised otherwise.

Some GPs are asking people to consider whether they really need appointments.

The virus that hit the NHS in England and Scotland, known as Wanna Decryptor or WannaCry, has infected 200,000 machines in 150 countries since Friday.

I already spoke at length about how to protect yourselves from this particular attack, but as this code can be quickly changed by the cyber-attackers it can appear again in a slightly different form in the future.

While the anti-virus companies do update their protections against these types of viruses very quickly we have to update out cyber-security just as fast as the attacker's software changes.

Many home computers have automated virus definitions updates that do this job but doing it this way might not be quick enough to defeat the latest version of this virus.

My advice is to go to your anti-virus update programme and do it yourself. This is an easy thing to do by just opening you're antivirus programme and click on the "update" button.

All these cyber criminals need to do is to re-jig the virus so that any updates don't recognise it, and keep doing it until a heluva lot of damage has been done.

I found it amusing that many government computers are still using Windows XP as their operating system. Microsoft stopped supporting, ( updating ), that OS two years ago.

I found it interesting that it had been said that some parts of the code that was found in the WannaCry virus has been seen before in previous North Korea cyber attacks.

If that is true then Kim Jung Un is making cyber war on us.

If it is I am sure that we have many more clever hackers that could do it back.

Even the clever people in the Secret Intelligent Service, ( SIS ), will have many skilled cyber-engineers that could do even worse if they were made to.

Cyber warfare is becoming the latest method of making war without killing anybody in the process.
