Immigration: Tories to keep 'tens of thousands' target.

Post by papa_umau on Wed 10 May 2017, 11:05 am

Tories say that they are AGAIN going to cut immigration to tens of thousands.

Tories to again say that they are going to cut immigration to tens of thousandsTheresa May has indicated that the Conservatives will again promise to cut net migration to the "tens of thousands" in their election manifesto.

Speaking in Harrow, she said migration levels were having an impact on public services and low-paid workers.

Asked if this meant the target - missed repeatedly since 2010 - could be hit, she said it was important to continue to aim for "sustainable" levels.

Other parties said the target was "artificial" and should be dropped.

Well folks, do you think that the Tories can do it this time when they failed so miserable so many times before ?

I think this is just another dishonest promise in their manifesto in order to appeal to the masses just before the election.

    What say you ?

Interesting point - one of the overlooked facts during the referendum was that EU immigration was LESS than non-EU immigration. The UK government could control non EU immigration but chose not to hence the assertion by remain that the referendum was on dodgy ground to begin with.

In answer to your post though, I think she is so far ahead in the polls that she doesnt need to make headline claims.

You might be right there about both of you're claims.

The only thing is that because the rest of the world immigration comes from a much larger pool it is not surprising that there are more immigrants from the world than there are from the EU.

The first thing that the government need to do is to actually count how many immigrants we get from abroad as at the moment they have no clue about how many legal or illegal immigrants are in these islands.

"She" Mrs May, is quite far ahead in the polls and I have no clue how to go about changing that before June 8th.

I don't think that Corbyn has any idea about how to do this either.

The idea would be to do a Blair, as when he aimed his planning at the middle-ground he got lots of ex-Tories to come over to Labour.

Mind you, I don't think that a hard-left Corbyn could do that as he is just not the statesman that Blair was.

Although I couldn't stand Blair and he was a warmonger, he was a much smarter person that Corbyn will ever be.

Sadly I don't think there are now enough true lefties left in Britain to elect the Labour Party back into government as it stands.

I actually think the Labour manifesto is a good one - it differentaites them from the Conservatives and the Lib Dems

What we really need is Fallon/Farron - whatever the LD boss is called - to say they will withdraw article 50 and the LD vote goes up 16m. As it is they are no different from the background noise.

Not sure exactly what you were getting at there, but you are right that the leaked labour manifesto looks like a good one.

We will not know for sure what they are offering us in return for our votes until we actually see the finished and costed manifesto.

I, for one, am looking forward to this.
