    Tories can walk on water!

Post by Gandhi on Fri 05 May 2017, 1:54 pm

At local elections, the Tories are cleaning up at the expense of the other major political parties.

    https://www.theguardian.com/politics/ng-interactive/2017/may/04/local-and-mayoral-elections-2017-live-results-tracker

Up 229 seats so far, labour down 110, lib dems down another 26, the UK Idiots party wiped out, looks like Teresa May has got it right with her policies and delivery.

What do you folks think? Are the Tories really the right people to govern?

I think that a lot of the votes that the Tories got this time are from defecting UKIP and Labour voters.

This can be seen as Mr May's policies attracting new voters, but everybody knows that local election voters are very seldom the same voters in a general election.

In Scotland the SNP came first with the Tories and the labourites at just about the same level below them.

HERE are the Scottish results from the BBC.

One interesting result was that a previously Labour controlled Glasgow, ( for forty years ), has fallen to the SNP.

"Tories can walk on water" eh ?

They probably think they can, but this rise in the Tory local support has been made possible by a lot of people who feel they can no longer vote Labour, Lib Dem or UKIP.

As Papa says, "this might not be transferrable to the general election in June".

    Thanks for the support Angie.

We will only know if these local results can be translated into general election results after June 8th.

Sadly, I don't think there are enough lefties like me in England to ensure that Corbyn actually wins the GE.

It is going to be interesting to see what actually happens.

Local elections often don't match General Elections. We can only wait and see.

Yes, they can only give a hint as to how people are going to vote in a GE, but historically it has been hard to guess if the local elections might give any of the parties any particular hope.
