'Extremely lucky' surfer found after 32 hours in sea

An "extremely lucky" surfer has been found by a coastguard helicopter after 32 hours in the sea.

Matthew Bryce, 22, from Glasgow, had not been seen since he set off to go surfing off the Argyll coast at 09:00 on Sunday.

Belfast Coastguard said he had been in the water since 11:30 on Sunday and was found at 19:30 on Monday.

A spokeswoman said Mr Bryce, who was wearing a wetsuit, was hypothermic and had been taken to hospital in Belfast.

His condition was described as stable.

I guess this man and his family and friends are very thankful that he got out of that predicament alive.

Yeah, that was quite a story yesterday.

I am of the opinion, that like diving, surfing should be done on a "buddy" system so such things cannot happen.

Even if he was being watched from onshore a phone call to the Coastguard would have saved this guy much quicker.

Many years ago I surfed in Cornwall, (I wasn't always old!) Laughing If the tides and currents in Cornwall were anything to go by then, I would hate to try it on the west coast of Scotland!

In todays news, a sailor has been rescued after a similar time at sea.

Yes, I saw that one on the telly too HG.

The TV interview that was done by the bed of the young guy, who was saved by the coastguard, was one of the most emotional interviews that I have seen.

I just hope he makes a full recovery as he seemed to be still very upset by the experience.

    One lucky guy, nevertheless.
