    System leaves refugees destitute.

Two-tier system leaving refugees in UK destitute, says report

Thousands of refugees face homelessness and destitution because of a "two-tier" UK system, MPs and peers have warned.

The all-party parliamentary group on refugees says people brought to the UK via resettlement schemes receive more support than those given refugee status after arriving as asylum seekers.

It says the next government should create a minister for refugees to help level the playing field.

Get the full report on this from The BBC HERE

Surely, if we willingly receive refugees from war-torn countries we should treat all of them the same.

This has to be a good reason for creating a government post of "minister for refugees".

    Comments anybody.

Good idea; While we are at it, let's reorganise the Home Office and get a few humanitarians in there.

Humanitarianism, will always take a back seat, if applied at all, so long as The Tories are in charge.

I just hope that the voters remember the nasty things that this "nasty" party have done to the weak, the sick, the old, and the poor since they came into power.

Someone said in my newspaper letters section today that May is worse than Thatcher was, and he was right. The only difference between the two is the fact that May is more sneaky about it.

Whether it is half hearted or just plain crazy to treat different types of refugees differently, I think that the government are going to have to sort this anomaly out.

I agree Zathrus, as this mob will try any trick in the book, and a few that are not, in order to save money in such ways.

It is just a shame that the Tories are so willing to attack the weak and the helpless in order to save money.

I can understand why and how the government are organised better as far as refugees are concerned, especially as it is often orphaned children that they do bring in.

The other part of our refugees system is just not tailored to look after such people when they come here on their own as asylum seekers.

Maybe that part of the system should be better designed and financed.

Finger on the button my dear.

Maybe if the present government stopped giving international aid to the likes of China and India we would have more cash to spend at home.

Sorry to rain on your parade but I thought refugees settled in neighbouring states? Wht do we have to transport them all the way across Europe to come here? This is not about humanitarianism, this is about point scoring. Look at us we've taken 1000 more than you ner.

If they really cared about Syrians they would leave assad to rule his county without interference. They should have done the same with Saddam, Gaddafi......

How many refugees do their Arab neighbours take in?

We cannot effect how many refugees the other countries of the world take in, but we can decide how many we can take, as a matter of humanity.

I have to say that I agree that it is foolish to give international aid to two of the richest countries of the world when we could find better ways of spending this money right here.

It is true that Asylum seekers should apply in the first 'free' country they come to, but as Europe has opened all it's borders, there is no way for them to do so; hence the rush to Britain, where there is a policed Border.

    Good point HG.

The only countries that have taken in more people than Britain is Germany and Turkey.

Recent figures from the United Nations refugee agency (UNHCR) revealed that 2015 was the year of the largest migration of people in human history with 65 million fleeing their homes forreasons of conflict, economics, drought and political persecution.

Many sought refuge within their own country, but those who chose to leave travelled to two countries: Turkey and Germany. While some argue that many migrants in Turkey wish to come to Germany, the Germans have still accepted over 1.8 million migrants, including refugees, in total.

Take a look at this subject from a Google page HERE
