SimSimi chatline app removed from the ROI

Post by papa_umau on Wed 26 Apr 2017, 10:57 am

It appears that this latest app can be easily used for bullying..

This anonymous chat app linked to cyber bullying has been suspended in the Republic of Ireland, but children in Northern Ireland and the rest of the UK can still download it.

SimSimi temporarily removed access in the Republic this week, with a message: "I do not talk in Ireland for a while".

But schools in Northern Ireland are alerting parents about the app and asking them to check children's phones.
And police in County Down have sent out an alert warning that messages can be both "abusive" and "explicit".

Get the full report from The BBC HERE

Well folks, even although I am sure that you already know that some Social Networking apps can be dangerous for your children to use, here is one that could certainly be used by strangers to cyber-attack your children.

If you find this app on your children's phones or tablets simply delete them and ensure that your kids do not get it and use it again.

Seemingly this is only going to be a temporary ban in the ROI, but if any social networking app like this, is as dangerous as they say, it and all of the other questionable apps, should be taken down permanently.

After all, it is our children's safety we are talking about here.

Very true, but the companies and individuals that run these apps and sites say that we should police our children as far as this goes.

While that is right too, it has to be some kind of a partnership in vetting such sites, with both the companies responsible AND the parents working at it.

There is a big row going on just now about this exact subject.

Oh my, I do have that Android app on my phone and I had no idea it was like the way described here.

I think I might be safer just going back to Facebook and Twitter and uninstalling that little beast with it's cheeky tongue sticking out.

Yes, that is the SimSimi logo Angie.

Mind you, although that app might be the worst for security weakness, many of the other social networking programs need to tighten up their security too.

After doing a bit of research I found that that app is just a "learning bot", ( an artificial intelligence computer ), that is not supervised.

Because it is designed and programmed to learn from "chat" it is wide open for some people to abuse it and to use it to bully and attack other users.
