A "snap" general election on 8th June.

Post by papa_umau on Tue 18 Apr 2017, 12:04 pm

Theresa May to seek snap election for 8th June

She said Britain needed certainty, stability and strong leadership following the EU referendum.

Explaining the decision, Mrs May said: "The country is coming together but Westminster is not."

There will be a Commons vote on the proposed election on Wednesday - Labour have said they will vote with the government.

Explaining her change of heart on an early election, Mrs May said: "I have concluded the only way to guarantee certainty and security for years ahead is to hold this election."

    WOW.... that's a shocker !

I personally believe that Mrs May is taking a big risk with her position and the position of the Tory party and government by doing this.

If she gets her way and a general election is going to be called in June very few people will be able to forsee the result.

    Personally, I welcome it.

I will throw my hat into the ring - I shall be voting for whoever will stop Brexit - currently the Lib Dems

Gandhi, sadly Brexit can not now be stopped as too many people want it to happen.

Even Theresa May, who herself was a remainer, will now get all of the support that she wants to push it through.

I believe that she has brought the general election forward just so that she can sack from the cabinet all of the rebels that are putting their spanners into the works.

Of course it can be stoppeed - it is in the nations best interests to ignore the referendum - there are still 16m votes for the anti referendum campaign

I voted Remain, But I am profoundly uneasy about the European Army, not keen that our Forces come under outside control.

    HG:

Yes, even as a remainer myself, I NEVER said that there were not a lot of problems connected with being a member of the EU.

Army control is only one of them, there are many hundreds more.

The massively unelected power in the unelected Executive Council would be the first thing that I would try to fix.

    Gandhi:

It can only be stopped if the snap general election brings in more remainers than leavers, and sadly I think that Theresa May is going to get back in with an increased majority.

That could lead to the worst of all decisions to bring in a "hard Brexit".

Not one bit surprised in that.

Let's just wait and see shall we.
