Now Store Twenty One hits the skids.

Trouble at Store Twenty One adds to high street woes

A thousand jobs are at risk at the discount fashion retailer Store Twenty One, formerly known as Quality Seconds, which is in talks with its lenders after defaulting on rent payments.

The company struck a rescue deal with creditors last year through a controversial company voluntary arrangement (CVA), but is still struggling as more pain sweeps the high street.

Last week Brantano collapsed into administration, Agent Provocateur was sold in a rescue deal to Mike Ashley and Jones Bootmaker teetered on the brink.

More and more well known high-street companies are now going under as trading becomes more difficult every day.

Very soon, all we will see on our high-streets will be bookies shops, charity shops, and pawn shops.

    It's that way already Paps.

The high street is slowly being strangled to death by the internet.

The people I care about the most is the ones that do not have their own transport, as these ones have to either go by bus or by taxi if they are need to do a bit of shopping.

Shopping out of town is fine for people like us that have cars but if the shopping is a bit weighty it has to be brought home by taxi.

I see taxis turning up at supermarkets regularly, to pick up people with shopping when this is obviously going to cost these people more than they can afford to get their shopping home.

I stopped reading when I got to Quality Seconds - I have only been in one of their stores twice - the first time and the last time.

Their 'quality' is so shite that their products make Primark look like rolls royce. Wash any of their products and it falls to bits/twists/fades. No ta

Maybe that's the main reason they have went bust ?

The consumers are not as silly as we are told they are.

Quality Second weren't always like that, when they first started they were good, but we haven't had them in my town for some years now.

In many cases these kinds of shops start out meaning well, but eventually the profit motive turns them into just other examples of marketing at it's worst.

    They deserve to go bust.
