Half of Norway's new car-sales are electric or hybrid.

Norway has achieved yet another milestone in electric-car sales.

The Scandinavian country may be the friendliest for electric cars in the world, thanks to a combination of aggressive incentives, well-developed charging infrastructure, and a citizenry committed to lowering carbon emissions.

Thanks to this unique array of circumstances, electric cars routinely make up a larger percentage of new-car sales in Norway than they do in other countries.

WHY NOT BRITAIN I ask ?

We have a lot to learn from the Nordic countries, so why don't we take a leaf from their book ?

    Cannot argue with that Paps.

Maybe our government need to use "aggressive incentives" too.

I know one thing: electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles are just too expensive for the ordinary motorists.

Also there is still something known as "range anxiety" with electric cars and that makes them unsuitable for travelling any distance in them.

Then, of course, there is the cost of the installing of a proper home-charger as well.

"Range anxiety" has been virtually removed from people who buy certain electric cars.

The latest 90KWH Li-on batteries that are now available have a range of around 300 miles

They are only slightly larger and heavier as they use a technique called "high-density" packing of storage cells.

In the next few years almost all electric cars will have that kind of range and even if they start to run low there are now thousands of charging stations around the country

The Sat-Nav displays that come with all electric cars show, at the touch of a button, where your nearest charging stations are located.

They will probably be just as expensive as they are now and I cannot see this Tory government going against their oil mogul pals and incentivising sales of electric cars, like Norway has done.

Sadly, I have to agree with that Angie.

In fact the last Chancellor, George Osborne, was the one who put up VED for low emission and hybrid cars and the people who buy such vehicles after 1st of April will soon be made aware of this.

If he had even made the buying or leasing of purely electric cars - because they are emission-free - into a much cheaper option then banging up the VED for the other cars would not be so bad.
