Why are ticket touts allowed to buy tickets in bulk ?

Post by papa_umau on Mon 06 Feb 2017, 11:25 am

Touts who use automated software to bulk-buy thousands of concert tickets for resale at a profit would face prison sentences under new proposals from the Labour party.

The plan to outlaw the use of ticket-harvesting “bots” was proposed just days after industry experts warned MPs “industrial-scale market abuse” by professional touts was pricing genuine fans out of cultural and sporting events such as rugby union’s autumn internationals.

Most people that go online to buy concert tickets etc', find that they are told that they have all sold out in minutes, but the case actually is that the touts use software "bots" to buy up these tickets very fast so none are left for ordinary buyers after a very short time.

Now Labour are planning to put forward a motion in parliament that will outlaw the use of pirate software to buy up the available briefs.

It's a good idea, but will Labour acquire enough votes in parliament to get this motion through, as The Tories will vote it down just on principle.

I guess we shall have to wait and see.

Ed Sheeran angry that his fans are being ripped off.

Post by zathrus on Thu 09 Feb 2017, 11:22 am

Ed Sheeran says he's "deeply concerned" about online touts who are selling tickets on his UK tour for up to £1,000 each.

He's asking fans not to buy them for such inflated prices.

The star has teamed up with face value ticket platform Twickets for his April and May concerts.

But dozens of listings have already appeared on secondary ticketing sites offering entry at inflated prices minutes after going on sale.

A representative for Ed Sheeran told the Press Association: "We are vehemently opposed to the unethical practices that occur in the secondary market.

    .......................................

If that's the case why do the first sellers not ensure that the tickets cannot go to the touts.

It's alright for Sheeran to be angry, but why do the stars not guarantee that their venue tickets are sold at face value ?

Ticket touts have been around for generations. I wouldn't be surprised if they'd sold tickets to the gladiatorial matches and the Christians v the Lions in Ancient Rome!

I am sure you are right there HG Very Happy

I just find it hard to accept that the original ticket sellers continually sell to the touts in bulk.

The reselling of tickets should be outlawed completely.

It was on the news yesterday that Andy Murray is annoyed by the fact that a large number of tickets for the charity match that he is putting on with himself and Roger Federer are being offered on secondary sites at over a thousand pounds each.

It certainly is past time that the police and the government came down hard on these second sellers as they are still just touts and nothing more.

It can be hard to find the touts, let alone punish them. Often the venues give bulk buys of tickets to companies, who will often sell them on to the touts. It's a difficult thing to police. The Internet has just made things worse.

    Difficult YES, impossible NO.

If it was against the law to sell tickets in bulk to resellers - and this law was enforced - then the reselling of tickets by either electronic, ( internet ), or outside-the-venue touts could be nipped in the bud.

The use of "bots" or search algorithms by unscrupulous bulk buyers could be outlawed also and anyone using such software to buy bulk numbers of tickets could be easily traced and convicted.

All that is needed is the will in government and the police to bring out and enforce these laws and this particular rip-off could be solved almost at a stroke.
